I Do Knit – Honestly!

Maybe it’s winter, maybe it’s the hectic work schedule, maybe it’s having a “boy” underfoot (kidding! I love him underfoot) but it’s so hard to blog of late and as to reading other posts… there just aren’t enough hours in a day. This why I sometimes mention to comment and link me to any of your posts that you think are not-to-be-missed 🙂

In the interest of keeping this somewhat concise, I’ll gallery photos and the green links will have more construction details if you’re interested. Almost every project or purchase I’ve made is to aid my intrepid teammates, the Peppermint Ponies and I’m happy to say that I’ve reached level 1 in the Booster Club (can I say popped my cherry? I just did!) I’m at Cherry level and achieved the maximum points for my Q1 KAL – any Melanie Berg pattern – submission, ‘Moonraker‘. Canada Customs has been holding my Birthday order (placed on 15 Jan) hostage since the 22nd of January. I have no idea why this semi-regular order has aroused suspicion but am considering a covert mission to liberate the fuzzy goodness!

I’ve finished some long time WIP’s and hopelessly tangled some cobweb lace of a WIP that I hoped to be adding here but… damn… To keep me calm whilst waiting on my Postie to rescue my Birthday yarn, I’m working on a super cute Casapinka pattern called ‘Loop‘. It’s bright and fun, a stashbuster and super easy.

It’s February already and soon March will arrive and another round of National Crochet Month. I’ve picked a pattern and have some gorgeous – Yarn Porn ahead! – Yarn Love and Shibui to use for my first project. Planning ahead – bless my little ADD heart – this one will tie in nicely with Yarnathon 2017 projects and badge collecting.

I’m off to work – they just don’t understand about priorities, lol! – have a great rest of your week!

Worst Blogger Evah…

Yikes! A month gone by already? As 2016 closes I swear it’s picking up speed.

Family and Real Life have been keeping me hopping and I couldn’t be happier to see that the slow journey back to a positive balance in my corner of world is restored. I’m still knitting like a maniac but back in the land of the living too. My boy child has returned from his “Go West young man” adventure and will be staying local. The girl has married and moved to a different province – not because her brother came home! – and she and my SIL are happy and excited to be starting a new phase of their life. This mumma is verra chuffed! Get togethers with my Mamasan and Sibs and spending time with “Handy Andy” working on making this house more of a home are a welcome diversion from the laptop.

So. What’s up in the crafty, fibre-y part of my life? A few FO’s, a WIP or two and the bones for a new KeiB Designs design. I’m overdue for a pattern release. In the interest of keeping things short ‘n sweet and getting on with my Saturday plans, I’ll do my montage thing and you can click them for more info if you want.

The WIP’s and new design you’ll have to take my word for! Several things have been set aside for projects that move me ahead in the Eat.Sleep.Knit Yarnathon 2016 – just a couple more weeks to go! I hope your weeks have been filled with whatever makes you happy – as long as it isn’t illegal, immoral or fattening – and I’ll be back soon or soon-ish… 😉

Wednesday What I Got

Post title has immediately precipitated singing Sublime’s “What I Got” 🙂

I got me some FO’s and some WIP’s and a whole lotta love for this Friday when Bestie and me are off to Needler’s Retreat 2016!

I am beyond grateful to have been sponsored to go on a scholarship this year – it’s been a difficult one and Retreat is one of those soul and sanity resets that I look forward to even at the end of a good year. I’ll have my camera handy as always to record slip slip knits and shenanigans.

So… what fell off my hooks and needles since the last post?

A slouchy hat with a whole lotta Vikkel going on. I winged this one to use up some gorgeous Malabrigo Rios – matches my Black Locust mitts – and to earn another achievement badge in Eat.Sleep.Knit’s Yarnathon 2016. Go Starsheep!

Next up was another stashbuster. Coppelia is a shawl / cowl hybrid and I finally knit up some of my Schaefer Marjaana. I fell in love with this 50/50 Silk Merino blend and bought a sweater or two’s worth sometime in the early 2000’s. Moving and organizing my guest room unearthed a lot of treasures. I love how the combination of yarn and pattern came together and this one will be coming with me to Retreat.

Yes. Yes, we do plan our outfits for the weekend!

On the needles I have an interesting bulky knit cowl. This is a bit of a challenge but it is for another achievement badge so worth powering through my dislike of 10.00mm needles that feel like telephone poles! I never buy “fat” yarn but this is another of Malabrigo’s – the Rasta base – in the same colourway as my BL mitts and the Vikkel Slouch hat and so, is a little less irritating to juggle knit.

Two stitches to 2.5cm!

The other WIP’s in waiting are all progressing very well. Atelier is almost finished, Ruisseaux still needs sleeves, Dulce de Leche is coming along slowly but… it’s cashmere and silk! I’m making this last as long as I can… like any luscious, sexy, sensual, tactile… err… knitting!

I’ll be casting on some socks – gasp! – to take as my personal knitting for when we have “free time”. I decide on the Haleakala socks from one of Cookie A’s sock clubs – the first year I think – I was a member for the first and second rounds and have yet to make one sock from all the patterns we received! I guess that’s the hazard of having started off designing socks almost exclusively myself. I got “socked out”. These will be cast on once we’re at Retreat so in the meantime here’s a little bit of yarn porn from Claudia Hand Painted Yarns – Addiction base in teal colourway:

This is ESK’s photo and my skeins from them are identical.

Still can’t believe that I went from knitting one full pair of adult socks in less than 24 hours (Twice! My team competed and won twice) to not having finished a single pair in several years! Not a problem if a third of my stash wasn’t single skeins of Indie sock yarn…

I have a tiny bit of homework to prepare in addition to figuring out what Cons go with what cowls and what mukluks go with what shawls so better get cracking here. Hope you all have a productive week with lots of time for crafting and I hope to have some photos to share of the beautiful spot I’ll be at and some of my favourite ladies.

Cheers!

Preparations, Purls and Patterns

Life goes on and this is a very busy week for which I’m grateful. I’ll be spending an afternoon with my Mum and Sisters – the l’il big Bro works shifts 😦 – followed by wrapping up a crocheted crib blanket for my very first grand niece-ling. A visit to the dentist today – chipped a tooth! – as a former CDA, I’m mildly freaked about that. Thursday is official ‘Sit ‘N Knit’ at my LYS but I may forgo as Friday brings our departure for 2015’s Needler’s Retreat!

I can definitely say, this has been an excellent diversion. I’ll be vending in person, as opposed to selling on Etsy, et al and creating and updating my Seller’s ‘tool kit’ has been at the top of my list. My presentation will be very simple as the Vendor’s Night portion of the weekend is small, the bulk of the time being devoted to workshops. I’ll include an info stand with my Berroco interview in print and business cards, a binder with a selection of patterns and samples for those. Hopefully, I’ll create some new connections and broaden my customer base. I’ll be including the first of my professionally tech edited patterns and one or two of my friend Francine’s (of Fancy That) shawl pins. Verra excited 🙂

On the homefront, I did a redux on my bar cart / microwave stand yesterday. It’s not my favourite piece, being from the ‘year of apartment living’ but it’s useful and so I thought I’d make it more presentable. The DK version of Matinée ~ Marbles is done too.

Countdown Days

It never ceases to amaze me just how quickly the days fly by.

A scant two months ago, I began looking a for a place to call home. The immediate flurry of activity as rental and sales agents became involved has made much of the time a blur. The last three weeks of sale negotiations and the nail-biting stress of doing this on my own are fading quickly with the realization that it’s just over two weeks before I’ll be settled in my new digs. A good place, free of any hint of the ugliness that shadowed much of the last two years.

This realization put a burr under my saddle as of Friday past and I am now in full on packing and organizing mode. The Boy is coming back for a visit in three days too, note to self: men need more than snack foods! I’ve much still packed thankfully. It became apparent almost immediately upon moving here that it would be temporary, so only the things I’ve been using to be dealt with. An order of boxes arrived yesterday and I’ve working at getting the least used things packed, labelled and stacked. Next up this week is to find a small, private mover – beer, pizza and friends being all well and good but probably the same cost and to begin tying up all the account type things.

In between, there is a little knitting to keep me on an even keel. Jacaranda / Jose got a lot of love this past week, the back is now done and the fronts have been cast on:

Despite my – ahem – better judgement, I’ve decided to participate in the Sweet Georgia “Summer Of Socks” KAL. I love SG’s yarns and have some kicking around that really needs to be knit. A couple bordering on ancient skeins of “Boheme” colourway should do for this project. The Superwash Sock is thick, bordering on a Sportweight and I’m thinking my own “Japanese Lanterns” pattern would be pretty in this or maybe my original “Mad-tini” socks.

SweetGeorgia YarnsAnd with that, another work day calls – loud and grumpy, like an angry fish wife! – it would seem that again, I bought lotto tickets that aren’t jackpot winners. I’ll need to speak sharply to the sales clerk when I buy my next one!

Hope your Monday is gentle and if not that, productive.

Cheers!

Another Fake It Monday

My WIP’s are all progressing well and I’m really liking the first clue of the Unique Sheep’s Peter Pan Mystery KAL. I will need to try and push through some of these as I’ve committed to team Wabi Sabi in the Ravellenics coming up in just a few weeks!

Follows are photos of my latest scarf prototype, the Hanging Garden Stole, my Ridges and Ribs sock, and a stashbusting sweater, that I’m adapting from an old pattern:

A little uninspired the last couple days. Winter had abated for a day or two and is now back with a vengeance. The tinsel and champagne are long gone and now is that long stretch to spring with no major events to break up the routine. Hopefully, KAL’ing and planning the move of my workplace to a new location will shake off these blahs…
