Mmmm… Yarn… 🙂
Mmmm… Yarn… 🙂
Don’t know about y’all but March came in like a lion here and tried its damnedest to go out that way too. Fortunately, it’s just rain that’s teeming down at the moment and getting rid of the remnants of snow and ‘snirt’.
The end of March is the end of National Crochet Month and I’m super stoked about my FO’s this year. I’m pretty sure I’ve hooked more in the last month than I normally do in six! I have five FO’s and one ‘also ran’. I’ve yet to snag more of the YP yarn to finish what was project two and I really don’t want to end it where it is – OCD alert.
So, on this first of April, here are all of the crochet things! 🙂
Fantasm Shawl‘s portfolio:
And a quick roundup of all my projects for this years #ncm2016:
I seem to have forgotten to post the finished project photos of my ‘Sothia Shawl‘! I finished this at the end of February and then jumped right in to the crochet projects. Without further ado, here are the pictures of another stash buster.
I’ve also finished my 3rd project for National crochet month – ‘Ile d’Ecosse Shawl‘. After all the dithering about beads, I decided to not use them. I still have a lot of the ‘blueberry mix’ Ultra Alpaca and so will use them for a different project. I really like this one – the yarn colour is so subtle, difficult to photograph – the purple flecks show best in direct, natural light.
Ile d’Ecosse’ portfolio:
Project number five, another shawl is off the hook but not blocked. It’s very rustic, worked in ‘SockItToMe Steps’ and was a help in tightening up my treble / triple crochet stitches. I’ll likely work it again in a nicer yarn though still very happy to use up the last of this 🙂
I hope your week has been productive and happy. Ciao for now!
Well, here it is ‘FO Friday’ and I have sweet FA to show for it. **sulks**
Okay, not really sulking but wishing I planned ahead more than I plan in the middle! ‘Smoke Rings‘ – NCM2016 #2 – is still at about 90% done and I’m at the mercy of Ravelry, waiting on Sellers. Failing that, the shawl is large enough to cast off now and call it for done. ‘Ile d’Ecosse‘ – NCM2016 #3 – is also nearly complete and would be done if I’d not decided that I wanted to bead the border. The Toho Round Seed Beads 8/0’s in ‘Metallic Cosmos’ should be here any day and hopefully, the FO will be worth the wait.
Stymied creatively, I wandered around my stash and Rav queue, looking for something to keep me occupied until I can get back to NCM and came up with some recently stashed Tosh merino light and a shawl pattern from The Yarniad – ‘Pennae‘. It’s coming along nicely with a mod here and there so I don’t die of ‘garter-itis’ and quelling the shakes until I can get back to the hook!
Here’s how things look at the end of week one of National Crochet Month:
I’ve done it again… It may be time to admit that my rebel ways sometimes annoy me!
I’ve run out of yarn just as the end is in sight for my ‘Smoke Rings‘ shawl… SMH. I did think it was possible but leaped ahead anyway. Oh well, an opportunity to start something else while I wait to hear back from a fellow Rav’r about buying details.
Smoke Rings so far:
My third project for National Crochet Month 2016 will be ‘Ile d’Ecosse‘, another pattern by Hélène Marcy for Annette Petavy Design. I was so impressed with the instructions for ‘Armorique‘, I found myself looking specifically for another of Hélène’s patterns. This is another stashbuster and another salvage project; the yarn I’m using is Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine – it seems I had a ‘thing’ for this yarn! – formerly of ‘Concetta’ cardigan configuration, I’ll return to ‘Concetta’ another time, we simply fell out of love, lol! The colourway is almost impossible to photograph accurately, a deep midnight blue with rich purple highlights, I’ve ordered some 8/0 Toho beads to embellish the border.
On the finished with no drama front – wait, there’s no such thing in this post! On the finished with the same drama front (I’m a slow learner or a fearless daredevil), ‘Laidley‘ shawl is finally finished too. I’m so glad to have this done and I think it’ll be added to my shop when I update next.
Must get to work! I hope Monday treats you all gently 🙂
Off the hook and I’m really happy with this one. The pattern was incredibly well written – I’m more enthusiastic than expert when it comes to crochet – and Hélène’s instructions made this a joy to hook. My project notes are on Ravelry -> here <-
I’ve got a good start on my second project, ‘Smoke Rings’ shawl and will have an update later this week.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! 🙂
I wrapped up my ‘Armorique‘ shawl this morning and it’s pinned out drying as we speak. Riding a little bit of a high, I’ve started my second project for NCM2016, ignoring the knitting WIP’s is no problem at all. Project two is another shawl designed by Hilda Steyn that I’m calling ‘Smoke Rings‘ after its colour. More stashbusting happening, I trawled my Ravelry stash and came up with this beautiful merino/bamboo/nylon fingering from a 2008 Yarn Pirate club. Somehow, I had the foresight and funds at the time, to purchase two skeins.
In other news, the blocking of Armorique must mean that my finger is healed! It is, mostly. Enough that I didn’t mind getting it wet and who knows? Maybe Eucalan has some healing properties.
I’ll leave off here with some pix. I’m really diggin’ the YP shawl and anxious to get back to it and to Arkady Renko in ‘Polar Star‘ – my current book 🙂
It’s here again: National Crochet Month!
I’m excited start my #NCM2016 project – Armorique Shawl by Hélène Marcy. I’ve reclaimed some Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine from a never-ending knitting project and am reading through the pattern to get a feel for the construction.
My Etsy shop is celebrating NCM too!

What will you be working on this year?
I was beavering away at this and more than ever need a love slave for my hands! This is my Manos del Uruguay version of “Filigree” and the one that I hope will be displayed at the LYS by week’s end. It’s a completely different look and feel in the merino silk blend v. the alpaca rayon. The stitches really pop in this base! I really love them both 🙂
Filigree has garnered a little interest from the folks at Berroco and hopefully, I’ll be able to tell a bit more in the coming weeks. Back to the grind to get a couple more samples done for both the LYS and the Needler’s Retreat 2015. I’m in like Flynn! So totally stoked and a little nervous too but I’ll be there with a bunch of wonderful ladies so… onward with the knitting. Next up a Cloche in some yummy shawl leftovers and the icy coolness of a Matinée in my new YvieKnits.
I’ve been missing some of the regulars here. Once in a blue, I see in Stats that you pop by to visit – please feel free to say “hello” and know you’re missed when not around. I’m on Instagram and FB too for those that prefer to connect there.
And presenting M’amselle in her new Fino Filigree:
Never too early to begin with your Christmas, Etc. gift making 🙂
You can find Filigree, my latest scarf pattern at the link below and please feel free to add me on Ravelry (KarinB) or to join the PSPRP group on Ravelry.
