DIY And WIP

Still not anything on the FO front – spring restlessness and the call of the garden are working a different kind of creative spell 🙂

My poor, poor Rheinlust has suffered some ‘dino damage’! A needle pulled out and I don’t have the patience just yet to tackle dropped twisted stitches. I will, but right now, it’s not happening. I have to fibre so snagged another of Hélène’s patterns, ‘Brise d’été‘ and went stash diving for the right yarn. I came up with a cobweb weight, hand dyed, 100% silk from ‘No Two Snowflakes’.

I’m terrified! I’m still far more enthusiast than expert with my crochet and I rarely knit with cobweb weight – dammit Jim! I’m a maker, not a masochist! So far though, it’s coming out okay and I’m a process stick handler so it’s all about that anyway 🙂 The NTS has a silky hand, subtle sheen and the colour is beautiful.

On the house front, the gardens are coming along well. I had promised myself no plant purchases this year – funds and needing to see how last year’s fill in being the reason – but… I have a few more heuchera and sedum coming and some mini bee balm to keep the bees happy. My living room long term plan got a wee bump up too – curse you Ikea how I love you! The bookcases I’ve had my eye on went on sale and it’s so rare, I decided to go for it. The last bit should be finished by the weekend, super happy that it’s working out for use of space and scale in my little nest 🙂

My Mother’s Day was wonderful as always because… my kids ❤ and my own Mumma ❤ and I hope the same for all the mums who read here.

And here are a few pix of of the WIP’s both wool and wood:

Preparations, Purls and Patterns

Life goes on and this is a very busy week for which I’m grateful. I’ll be spending an afternoon with my Mum and Sisters – the l’il big Bro works shifts 😦 – followed by wrapping up a crocheted crib blanket for my very first grand niece-ling. A visit to the dentist today – chipped a tooth! – as a former CDA, I’m mildly freaked about that. Thursday is official ‘Sit ‘N Knit’ at my LYS but I may forgo as Friday brings our departure for 2015’s Needler’s Retreat!

I can definitely say, this has been an excellent diversion. I’ll be vending in person, as opposed to selling on Etsy, et al and creating and updating my Seller’s ‘tool kit’ has been at the top of my list. My presentation will be very simple as the Vendor’s Night portion of the weekend is small, the bulk of the time being devoted to workshops. I’ll include an info stand with my Berroco interview in print and business cards, a binder with a selection of patterns and samples for those. Hopefully, I’ll create some new connections and broaden my customer base. I’ll be including the first of my professionally tech edited patterns and one or two of my friend Francine’s (of Fancy That) shawl pins. Verra excited 🙂

On the homefront, I did a redux on my bar cart / microwave stand yesterday. It’s not my favourite piece, being from the ‘year of apartment living’ but it’s useful and so I thought I’d make it more presentable. The DK version of Matinée ~ Marbles is done too.

A Small Break From The Garden…

I’ve started a bunch of things, nothing new there. It’s hard to focus when the garden calls. Hard to stay awake at night after an evening spent working outside. I do love it though, and it looks like there’ll be a good return on the work so far. Keeping my enthusiasm to the scale of a small urban space is the only trick. Like all my passions, it’s a “go big or go home” deal with me :).

I am in love with my latest crochet project, Schultertuch / Dreieckstuch and of the neglected, it is seeing the most love. I had some ancient Lorna’s Laces stash that demanded to be dusted off and it seems it will be a gradient-ish shawl, if all goes to plan.

Make It Monday

And… I’m in! 🙂

I’m also deeking out on the true Make It Monday concept but I did make a house and it’s almost there for being a home. Friday past dawned sunny and warm, it’s been a gorgeous summer here and I did manage my usual coffee and computer morning routine. What a nice – and auspicious – beginning to the day, I had a pattern sale on Ravelry. I navigated the rabbit’s warren that I’d made with all the boxes, to get out the door to work and had a productive day. My new keys were couriered to work by 1:00pm.

New Beginnings

How cute is that?! I didn’t even know there was such a thing as decorative keys 🙂

Saturday was moving day and though the inevitable last-minute packing had to happen, all else went smoothly. I’m certain I hold a world’s record for most boxes crammed into an apartment, the bulk of which were yarn and craft related with a fair smattering of unicorn and faery collectibles (I know… skeet shooting targets. Just can’t bear to get rid of them). From 9:00am to 4:30-ish was pack, travel to new address, and unpack. Another very auspicious event was arriving at my new place to unlock for the movers and finding a wee box between the doors. A delivery from Knit Picks! It seemed like the best of beginnings 🙂 My kids showed up in the latter part of the afternoon for their Ten Cent Tour, pizza and beer to christen my new back garden and to make this be “Home”.

Sunday, was leisurely unpacking and a little shopping for a few new household items. I’m in no rush and having found the important things: coffee / tea, mugs, current yarny project; I am pretty much “Good To Go”.

A sweet and thoughtful welcome from a dear friend.

A sweet and thoughtful welcome from a dear friend.

A gentle summer rain fell in between sunny periods yesterday and like a little rain on a bride’s bouquet, I consider that to be great good luck.
