Friday, You’re My Favourite

Three FO’s this week, yay! “Le Scarabée Argent“, “Firefly
and “Harmonia’s Rings“.

All the details are on my Ravelry, at the links above. Hope all is well in your world with lots of time for family, friends, chillin’ and crafting 🙂

So The Bad News Is…

I WILL be saying “Arcadian” again in this post. It’ll be later though 🙂

I hope to ETA this post a little later with the “Finished” photo of Silky Cables. I’m about to begin the last half of the second sleeve and am really happy about the colour match of my “insurance” skeins. I definitely needed them. These blousey, dolman-like sleeves are using up two and a smidgen skeins each! This is a lot of sweater and one of the reasons I love it so much.

Once I’ve freed up the needles, I have just the cuffs to work on Harmonia’s Rings. This was another yarn miracle – to find insurance skeins from Madelinetosh (she of no dye lots) that were purchased in the same year, mere months, same shop and in the hands of someone south of the border willing to part with this (gasp!) discontinued colourway – and to find upon their arrival here they look to have come from the same batch…

Can I get a Hell Yeah?!

I’m still working away at the small, “filler” projects and sketching and plotting madly for some new designs. It’s fair to say that my new poison is making best friends of knit and crochet. Putting my hands on some King Cole “Galaxy” and some Berroco Vintage DK today means I’ll have to get at some prototype planning. My next big project will probably be the “Impromptu” cardigan. I’ve some gorgeous Canopy Fingering in “Crocus” a deep plummy shade and a few choices in contrasting or coordinating fingering for the pocket linings. My favourite is the Sirdar Baby Bamboo, though it’s a bit on the heavy side:

The first of the Arcadian patterns is available now on Ravelry. Pattern page here.
The rest will follow shortly, now that I’ve had a chance to work the kinks out of the new format and PDF transfer. It felt great to flex those old technical writer bones and I hope that crafters will like the more streamlined look. All three will be available in an e-book format as well as individually in a day or two.

All this means I should get myself to bed. It’s rainy gently, such a beautiful sound when it returns in the spring and I’ll be dreaming in colour for sure!

Harmonia Happiness

I’m as close to finished my other sweater as possible, waiting only for the arrival of a skein to make the long-sleeve version.

That is a great story – I was so excited about using up this old (2010) stash that I didn’t realize I only had 5 skeins, not the 6 I’d mistakenly listed on Ravelry. Madelintosh as many of you know, doesn’t used dye lots (a ridiculous business decision but genius has it’s privilege I suppose). Undaunted, I resolved to buy a skein as close as possible and blend two together however but much to my chagrin, I discovered that “wisteria” had been discontinued.  Who discontinues purple?! Really people… Anyway, after an Internet and Ravelry  search (and heaven knows, it can be hard to get people to part with Stash, even if they haven’t used it in near a decade!) I found my shade and miraculously, it was purchased from the same shop – The Loopy Ewe – and in the same year as my own, just a few months apart. Fortuitous! I think the odds are quite good that it’ll be from the same batch, if not lot. The photo certainly looks close and though it was not listed for sale, the lovely Raveller agreed to sell to me 🙂

Here’s my progress from the inside view:

Harmonia's  Rings ~ Progress 2

Just a quick note: I’ve been finding it hard to catch up on my reading and responding on WordPress. Some of you know that I have a writing and poetry blog here as well. The volume of wonderful posts is sometimes overwhelming, especially when my M.E. kicks up and I hope you’ll forgive me if I miss something. Always know that your visits are what keeps me going  and are very much appreciated 🙂

My Little Log Cabin In The Silk Garden

All squares finished and ready for borders:

These are the first six and from my bag of 10 skeins (Colour 243 B), I was able to get 12 squares with some leftover for mending.

And a couple more, seeing’s as I just realized I shared the above photo and am too lazy to take it out :p :

Log Cabin in Silk Garden ~ Start
What a happy making project! As portable as socks, no thinking just keeping my hands busy – something as essential as breathing for me. My GF had made a similar type of blanket and chose Lett Lopi for her borders, I’m following that lead after checking it out on line. It looks to have a similar hand and appearance when knit to the Noro Silk Garden. I went with a colour called “Black Heather”. It has the traditional look of a black border but I think will be a little less harsh in contrast to the blocks. Unfortunately, it’s backordered for 2-3 weeks but I think I can find something to keep me busy 😉
My Harmonia’s Rings sweater is still in the works, it needs just the bottom band and the sleeves are almost complete, just debating full or elbow length sleeves and because I’m me… I started another sweater. With cleaning, organizing and donating, I’m finding some lovely yarn that I’d forgotten about. A bag of Elann’s Highland Silk looked a great fit to make a new version of one of my favourite sweaters. No photos yet, I’m just working the bottom rib of this generous sized, turtleneck pullover. The first version was made when I was pregnant with my son and has survived many years and even machine washing since. Week’s end should bring a progress photo to share 🙂

WIP Wednesday

… and an FO 🙂

FO first. This is “Papyrus Columns Cowl”. A mostly reversible cowl or infinity scarf.

The completed set:

Memories of Egypt. Completed test knits for a KeiB Designs e-book.

I’ll be finishing the tech editing for the cowl today and hope to have the e-book up on Ravelry this evening. I think the book version will be titled “Memories of Egypt” or something similar, to reflect the cable theme that I used.

I hope some of you will give one of these a whirl and if you do, please feel free to share your photos 🙂

My new WIP is “Harmonia’s Rings” by Sivia Harding:

February 25th

KeiB’s “Harmonia”

This is my first moebius project – I know. It’s just I hate being a crowd follower and if it’s popular, I usually stay away from it. Must keep the “Punk” in Punk Rock! This pattern called to me though and so I am now on the moebius bandwagon.

I watched Cat Bordhi’s Youtube video to teach myself the cast on and as best I can tell, all has gone accordingly. I’m using one of my favourite yarns, Madeline Tosh Vintage in the colourway “Wisteria”. Another stashbuster project, as I purchased this a few years ago for a different project and fortuitously, had the right yardage 🙂

It’s snowing like mad again today and so I’ll tuck in with Harmonia and Henry Miller (some things are just better each time) and hope that Spring won’t forget Ottawa!

Cheers All 🙂
