FO Friday Not

Well, here it is ‘FO Friday’ and I have sweet FA to show for it. **sulks**

Okay, not really sulking but wishing I planned ahead more than I plan in the middle! ‘Smoke Rings‘ – NCM2016 #2 – is still at about 90% done and I’m at the mercy of Ravelry, waiting on Sellers. Failing that, the shawl is large enough to cast off now and call it for done. ‘Ile d’Ecosse‘ – NCM2016 #3 – is also nearly complete and would be done if I’d not decided that I wanted to bead the border. The Toho Round Seed Beads 8/0’s in ‘Metallic Cosmos’ should be here any day and hopefully, the FO will be worth the wait.

Stymied creatively, I wandered around my stash and Rav queue, looking for something to keep me occupied until I can get back to NCM and came up with some recently stashed Tosh merino light and a shawl pattern from The Yarniad – ‘Pennae‘. It’s coming along nicely with a mod here and there so I don’t die of ‘garter-itis’ and quelling the shakes until I can get back to the hook!

Here’s how things look at the end of week one of National Crochet Month:

Make It Monday

I’ve done it again… It may be time to admit that my rebel ways sometimes annoy me!

I’ve run out of yarn just as the end is in sight for my ‘Smoke Rings‘ shawl… SMH. I did think it was possible but leaped ahead anyway. Oh well, an opportunity to start something else while I wait to hear back from a fellow Rav’r about buying details.

Smoke Rings so far:

My third project for National Crochet Month 2016 will be ‘Ile d’Ecosse‘, another pattern by Hélène Marcy for Annette Petavy Design. I was so impressed with the instructions for ‘Armorique‘, I found myself looking specifically for another of Hélène’s patterns. This is another stashbuster and another salvage project; the yarn I’m using is Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine – it seems I had a ‘thing’ for this yarn! – formerly of ‘Concetta’ cardigan configuration, I’ll return to ‘Concetta’ another time, we simply fell out of love, lol! The colourway is almost impossible to photograph accurately, a deep midnight blue with rich purple highlights, I’ve ordered some 8/0 Toho beads to embellish the border.

On the finished with no drama front – wait, there’s no such thing in this post! On the finished with the same drama front (I’m a slow learner or a fearless daredevil), ‘Laidley‘ shawl is finally finished too. I’m so glad to have this done and I think it’ll be added to my shop when I update next.

Must get to work! I hope Monday treats you all gently 🙂

Lilli Pilli Shawl Is A Wrap

Very happy with this 🙂 The endless garter stitch made this a bit of a grind but in the end is so-o-o worth it. I busted some stash too and that is always a good thing in my house.

Last Stitches 2015

FO Friday Again :)

Venetian” was a spur-of-the-moment idea. I unpacked a box of yarn to inventory on Ravelry and rediscovered some Fleece Artist Somoko. This is another design that incorporates both knitting and crochet and I decided on a stole, in order to use up both skeins.

Finished Fan-Dango

One more project finished this week – my Turquoise Fan-Dango, worked from Annette Petavy’s “Buttercream Shawl”.

Worked at a larger tension and with a tiny mod, here are the finished (unblocked) photos:

Konnichi wa Geisha!

I couldn’t put this one down 🙂 “Geisha” is the prototype for another ©Kindred Knits & Cohabiting Crochet design. More stashbusting too. The concept is meant to echo the fans that Geisha use during dancing. The inset, delicately ruched bands are like the pleats of a fan or the gentle ripples of an ornamental koi pond. The central panel is linear and structural, mirroring the lines of a shoji screen.

Super happy with this one and have caked some gorgeous Zen Yarn Garden DK and Lace, in tonal shades of cherry-blossom pink, to work the test knit.

WIP Wednesday

My WIP’s doth runneth over! Already… 2015 knitting is off to a blistering start despite the constant interference of that Time Vampire “Work”.

One the needles, in my typical “Circuit Knitting” style are:

Phoenix Rising: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/KarinB/phoenix-rising

Goth-stonian Leg Warmers: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/KarinB/goth-stonian-legwarmers

Cairo Scarf Test Knit: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/KarinB/cairo-scarf

I’m cheating and just linking the Ravelry project pages so that I can save my fingers.

The first full week back, post flu and the passing of my beautiful Nanny, has been brutal! Temperatures are what they are during January in my neck of the woods: cold with cold, bitter freezing and cold :p and my unit was tasked with completing several Finance courses that are mandatory and had to be completed by days’ end yesterday. No mean feat in a unit where timelines for completing your actual work are near impossible due to demand and our tiny staff. I am happy to say though that all three courses are complete and my marks may even have been pretty good! Nice to add to the old resume.

I have some wonderful news about Les Cloches Cannelées, it is going to be carried in printed format at my local LYS, Yarn Forward! I’m over the moon as every little bit helps. It’s hard to shine among the many pattern choices and talented designers on Ravelry, or even Etsy and so I’m super happy to have this opportunity. A store sample is underway and I’m crossing my fingers.

And with that, I’m off to work, <grumbles>

Cheers All!

It’s A Brand New Shiny Year

I’m looking forward to another year of fibre, friends and fun on Pointe Shoes Punk Rock And Purl and happy to see all the talented new followers and old. You keep me inspired… if not out of the yarn shops! 😉

My 2014 projects in review can be seen on this page: Finished Knits 2014 and there’s a link on it to the project specifics for the patterns and yarns used.

I have a tradition of beginning a new project on New Years Eve and this one was no exception. Serendipitously and very appropriately, I had all the materials to start “Phoenix Rising”, a shawl by Sivia Harding Design. I’m a fan of Sivia’s patterns and the name and it’s associated story seem a metaphor for my life in general and how I’d like to see it continue this year. I don’t have a progress photo yet, I’ve been utterly engrossed in the making of it but here is a peak at the yarn – Unique Sheep’s Marici lace, the beads – 8/0 SL crystal AB’s and the pattern. The project page is on my Ravelry here.

The “Snow Glint” colourway is exclusive to Earthfaire, one of my favourite yarn store temptations.

To start the year off right, my friend Yvonne of Yvieknits Yarns is running a contest over on her blog. Yvie is the talented dyer behind the Mawata silk hankies that were used in one of the classes held this year at Needler’s Retreat 2014, taught by my lovely and talented BFF, Francine Hebert of “Fancy That”, yarn embellishments and jewellery.
You could win a skein of Yvie’s silk merino dk, so pop over for a visit 🙂

As it’s the beginning of a new year, I’ll take a moment to invite you to find me on Ravelry as “KarinB” and to join the Pointe Shoes Punk Rock And Purl group there if you wish. I hope to be spending more time there and with publishing my “KB Designs” knitting and crochet patterns.

You can find my patterns on Craftsy, Etsy, Ravelry and on my Blogger home “So Many Vices, So Little Time“. I’ll get them here eventually… there really is “so little time”! I sell finished handmade items and some crafting supplies on Etsy as well.

If you’re a Social Media type, I can be found with the motley lot that hangs around on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Goodreads, Pinterest and others. The green buttons on the top right hand side of the page will take you to my little corner of those spots. Feel free to leave a comment below about your own other internet spaces and to join me at mine.

Sheesh! You’d wonder how any of us have time to craft, right?! 😉

And with that – I’m back to the needles.

Cheers all!

Wet And Wooly Wednesdays

Putting the blocks to “Ollie” 😉

Putting the blocks to Ollie 😊

I KNOW!! Right?!

When did I turn into “The Blockinator”?

So totally worth it to make the time. Ollie has come out huge and I’m glad, it gives the gradient colourway lots of room to be appreciated and look at all those nupps!

Loved this project. Janine is a whiz with lace patterns and I am totally smitten with the Unique Sheep’s Luxe base.

Santa?
