Hello 2018!

The gallery for my 2017 finished projects is up, you can check them out here:

Finished Projects 2017

A few more projects have jumped on to the needles since New Year’s Eve.

First up is the Prairie Fire pullover for the first quarter KAL in Eat.Sleep.Knit’s 2018 Yarnathon. I’m working this in Tosh DK and it’s lovely; more of a cotton feel and handle than a traditional woolly hand. I’ll be starting the lower band shortly and then just the sleeves to finish up.

Speeding along on a few WIP’s; my Petrichor Cardigan is nearly complete and I have a few of the colours that I’ll be using in “Hue Shift” – photos to come once all yarn has arrived. I’m really stoked about the variety of projects we’ll be working on this year!

It’s a new year, a new-ish job, same old cat that I adore, another birthday and some big changes to come…

I hope your own 2018 kickoff is going well. Cheers!

Winding Down 2016

It’s the final weeks of December and once again I’m wondering where the heck this year went?! It’s been a pivotal year for me in my personal life (but that’s another blog site) altogether a very good one 🙂 A few more projects have flown off the needles and one or two may even make the deadline before New Year’s Eve (I still need a date – interviews being conducted – ha!)

My Solace Cardi is finished and I loved working with SweetGeorgia’s Worsted. The hand is soft and squishy with great stitch definition and the “Ultra Violet” colourway is the most exquisite mix of every purple that my little heart could wish for. A few mods along the way and some to try in another version of this, should I make another.

Solace and Solace Info:

Next up was a quickie knit for my “Silk Sweetheart” badge and a great reason to justify buying some Madeline Tosh Merino|Silk – well worth it!

Mandala Bias Scarf and Ravelry Info:

Speeding along on a few WIP’s; my NoFa Shawl and Ellington Socks photos and Ravelry details are linked to their names in green italic. Crossing my fingers to have those finished and a clean (more or less) craft slate for 2017. The next few days will be filled with cooking and a wee bit of baking for the holiday. My own crew will be here at home base for a few days, visiting various and sundry in-laws and outlaws and then I’ll have a little down time to spend with friends before a new year, another birthday and some big changes to come.

I hope your own countdown to Yule (or whatever) is going smoothly and happily and that you find a moment or two to relax and knit (or whatever). Cheers!

Friday, You’re My Favourite

Three FO’s this week, yay! “Le Scarabée Argent“, “Firefly
and “Harmonia’s Rings“.

All the details are on my Ravelry, at the links above. Hope all is well in your world with lots of time for family, friends, chillin’ and crafting 🙂

FO Friday

This has nothing to do with Frig Off Mother Nature, who dropped another 15cm of snow onto our fledgling spring day before yesterday.

(and apologies for not being as interactive with comments as usual – I’m always a flighty mess with ADD/OCD but I suffer adore Spring Fever on top of that!)

It does have to do with stashbusting, crochet – I’m still on the jag, Madeline Tosh and spring fever that can’t be denied. Shovel duty notwithstanding.

Over The Rideau‘ came off the blocking mats first thing this morning and I’m happy with this one, maybe even a bit barmy! There’s a scarf size version, hooked in Tosh leftovers from my ‘Pennae Shawl‘ and last night, a cake of KnitCircus leaped from the shelf and demanded that it be worked in this pattern too!

It’s that quick, easy and a one skein project when worked without mods to size. For someone with as any OOAK, limited and yarn club singles as me, I’m finding I can bang out one of these in several hours and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to an adventurous beginner.

As unpacking progresses – now to the boxes of items that had been stored for ages anyway – I’m finding there are many bits of my old life that I’m happy to let go. Former hobby items mostly and collectibles accrued before I realized that yarn takes up less room!

If you are a fan of counted cross stitch, I have many beautiful kits and patterns for sale in my Etsy shop, including: Just Nan, Laura Perrin and Mirabillia. If you are a lover of teddybears, I’m listing many miniature to medium size OOAK and limited edition artist teddies at my Ebay shop. There just isn’t room for them in my new place. Feel free to contact me here or there if you have any questions, the links for both shops follow just below:

Wednesday…

Still waiting on my beads to finish up ‘Ile d’Ecosse’ shawl and so committed myself to finishing and blocking ‘Pennae‘ shawl. I like how the two colours of Tosh Merino Light played so nicely together but I have to admit, I prefer symmetrical shawls. I did tweak this a bit to minimize the snooze-inducing amount of garter stitch – again, just personal preference – and I think it’s come out okay.

Pennae’s portfolio:

I’m still really hook obsessed at the moment and so progress on my fourth NCM2016 project has been good. I’m making the  ‘Starry Skies‘ blanket in some very ancient worsted leftovers, yarn too nice to give away or donate but no longer a favourite colour or rescued from very old WIPs. It’s about ‘lapghan’ size as of today and I hope to have it wrapped up over the coming weekend.

Meanwhile, household chores call. I’m staining an antique washstand that has been passed from my Auntie, to my Mum and I scavenged it from the end of our driveway when I was a teen – much to Mum’s chagrin :). It’s been with me ever since and endured an epic session of stripping and sanding to remove the five or six coats of paint it had endured over it’s life with a family of DIYers with good taste. While that dries, I’m planning how to best individualize the translucent, frosted privacy film that I’ll be putting up on the entranceway sidelight. A new front door meant the old, curtained window went – glad, as it was original to the house (!) We’ll see how my attention span holds for the next few days 🙂

All of the WIPage:

FO Friday Not

Well, here it is ‘FO Friday’ and I have sweet FA to show for it. **sulks**

Okay, not really sulking but wishing I planned ahead more than I plan in the middle! ‘Smoke Rings‘ – NCM2016 #2 – is still at about 90% done and I’m at the mercy of Ravelry, waiting on Sellers. Failing that, the shawl is large enough to cast off now and call it for done. ‘Ile d’Ecosse‘ – NCM2016 #3 – is also nearly complete and would be done if I’d not decided that I wanted to bead the border. The Toho Round Seed Beads 8/0’s in ‘Metallic Cosmos’ should be here any day and hopefully, the FO will be worth the wait.

Stymied creatively, I wandered around my stash and Rav queue, looking for something to keep me occupied until I can get back to NCM and came up with some recently stashed Tosh merino light and a shawl pattern from The Yarniad – ‘Pennae‘. It’s coming along nicely with a mod here and there so I don’t die of ‘garter-itis’ and quelling the shakes until I can get back to the hook!

Here’s how things look at the end of week one of National Crochet Month:
