Tomorrow is the release date for the second clue in the MKAL. Looking forward to this! I completed Clue 1 last Saturday:
My new design is coming along. Working it in Malabrigo “Fino” is definitely a bonus and encouragement to not leave it languish for too long. I should have a photo to share soon.
Sadly, no blocked photos yet. Weddings, house chores, unpacking and organizing are still taking priority (and space!) One huge donation to The Canadian Diabetes Association should help to free up some of that, not to mention my sadly ruffled Fung Shui!
I’m not sure if I’m proud or horrified.
This may mean I need to turn in my punk rock rebel knitter card but…
I’ve got the correct tension on the recommended 3.75mm with Unique Sheep’s Luxe. I’ll be using my Addi Lace circulars for this project. I used skein 6 from the Gradience set for the swatch and it is a really nice yarn base. All the body and “sproing” of merino and a smooth feel of silk, without the slippery.
I can’t wait for the start date!
No knitting to speak of this weekend. I’m slowly working my way through the beaded bind off of Addewid. It’s hard to wrap up a truly enjoyable project.
I did cake the six luscious skeins of Unique Sheep Luxe that I’ll be using for the upcoming mystery KAL:
The theme is loosely based on the Oliver Twist tale by Dickens and designed by Janine La Cras, who also designed the Peter Pan shawl that I knit a few months ago. Should be another fun project. I’m taking my colour inspiration from the musical version “Oliver!” and the song: You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket or Two, I’ll be working this project in the “You Zig, I Zag” colourway (just as Fagin sings about for the boys) with S/L chartreuse AB beads in size 6. The yarn base is Luxe, a merino and Tussah silk blend.
The KAL begins with the first clue to be released on 19 September and… I’m ready 🙂
Saturday wa s bit out of the norm. My daughter and I had a bonding date and went to get tattoos together. This was her first tattoo and my most recent. The day couldn’t have been better, wrapping up with a late lunch and glass of wine on the patio of a neighbourhood pub. The perfect way to enjoy the waning days of summer temperatures here in the Nation’s Capital 🙂
Wishing you all a gentle Monday. Cheers!
The fifth and final clue for Addewid arrived at nine am, my time on Friday morning. I was still scrambling to get through Clue four. This is rare for me, I’m usually done and waiting impatiently for the next clue. I’m happily working away on Clue 5 now and looking forward to getting this one finished up.
The Pleasance shawl has got a little love; I’m halfway through the lace chart and still marvelling at the softness and sheen of the Serenity Silk.
What’s up next? I couldn’t resist the upcoming “Oliver Twist” KAL with The Unique Sheep and Earthfaire. I’d wanted to try the “Luxe” base and found an excuse! My yarn and beads are winging their way here for the 19 September start date for this one.

It’ll soon be time to start planning what to take along with me for the 2014 Needler’s Retreat, though I can’t believe that I’m saying that again so soon! I’m planning to have the “Tipsy Lizzy” shawl blocked to show off as I purchased the Hedgehog Fibres BFL Lace there last year and if I can get super inspired, I’ll whip up some socks from the gorgeous Riverside Studios silk fingering that was my other 2013 purchase.
But now I have a proper WIP Wednesday post. Yay!
Here is how Addewid is shaping up:
And a detail of Clue three that I just finished this evening:
The big, blue blob looks the same but has a new row of nupps and… I signed up for The Unique Sheep’s next mystery KAL. Some may call it an addiction. I say hell! It’s cheaper than… no. Not cheaper than that. Or that even… Oh well, it’s snugglier than most addictions. Janine La Cras is designing another of her outstanding shawls, this one based on the Dickens’ tale “Oliver Twist”. I love Dickens and I love the Unique Sheep’s Gradience colourways. I’ve opted to try their “Luxe” base this time. It always gets rave reviews. The start date is September 19th. Hard to believe that’s just a month away. My summer has blown by and I barely had time to unpack my sunscreen!
