Finished Objects And Book Pr0n

Had to charge up the camera battery! Here’s a finished photo of Scarf number three in my series and the beginning of number four.

This is in a periwinkle colour that I love, so a joy to knit. I’m using one of my own patterns, tweaking the stitch as I go and loving the result so far. Anxious to have these done and in the store. Anxious too, to get some of these older patterns written and formatted for sale. Seems an age since I had time, have been very busy with writing – my other favourite activity.

Book Pr0n! Almost as good as Yarn Pr0n. Interweave had a sale and I went a little mad, nice to see more publications about crochet coming out. I’m sure that just like knitting had a renaissance several years ago, as young designers discovered it; so will crochet. It does not aspire to be like knitting, it stands on its own and just needs the right combination of hook, yarn and good design principles to make something beautiful. The Finer Edge, Seamless Crochet, Unexpected Afghans and The Harmony Guides: Crochet Edgings and Trims, all look to be an excellent resource for my own designs. And because I DO knit more than crochet – The Jane Austen Knits magazine was irresistible, I think this is the third one. Some gorgeous knitting photography in this one, I could purchase just to look.

Last not least; another picture of my guy’s scarf. Shows the colours a bit better. It’s snowing here again, must finish the fringe so he can wear it!

PSPRP is still very much under construction. Moving the old format (which was actually three separate blogs – thank goodness technology has evolved!) to WordPress is a time-consuming labour of love. I want to be sure all the old stuff is safely attached here. Bear with me as I add the galleries back and add new. I’m wanting to see the Reader Knits gallery get much bigger!

“Fibre Funnies” from the Blogger format, may again have its own page or will be viewable as a category. We fibre people have a great sense of humour 🙂 I added a Jargon / Terminology page for those who may not be as familiar with fibre-y blogspeak and for the difference between American and Rest Of The World knitting terms.

Pop back from time to time to see what’s been added if you wish 🙂

The Knitting And Not Just The Natter

Oh so hard to resist typing “The Knitting and Knot Just the Knatter”!

I am also a writer, very much in love with words and a huge fan of alliteration… And so, to the knitting forthwith. 🙂

Scarves Plain ‘N Fancy III is just about a wrap and I have been able to make some updates to the Etsy shop to prep for stocking it. Much has changed at Etsy since I first opened PSPRP there. To celebrate, I wound up My Berocco Vintage that I’m using for my Beau’s scarf. I’m planning to crochet this project and one would think I was planning a year-long sabbatical to a foreign country!

This isn’t the first handcrafted gift that I’ve made for him but it is the first fibre one and I want it to be perfect. Manly yet fashionable, Soft and warm yet sturdy. Let us not forget washable… I do think the Vintage is a perfect choice for this, its certainly affordable and has a high percentage of wool for warmth, acrylic for softness and nylon will add strength and resist pilling. I love the colours together: chambray, cracked pepper and oats… He looks great in blue.

I’m leaning toward a granny stripe variation and should have plenty to make a matching toque or a mirror image scarf for DSDitto. More than enough to keep him warm when he’s at our second home in Canada and out of his more southerly element!

So what has me scouring Ravelry and the internet, for the”perfect” pattern like a crazed and enthused Newbie?

The dreaded “Sweater Curse”.

Okay. Not really but I did think of it as I was having a laugh at my own expense and just for the heck, googled it. Would you believe this is a known phenomenon and has its own page on Wikipedia? No curse shall stop my hook however so, posting a few photos of my own knitting and then off to get that foundation chain underway.

Berocco "Vintage" StashBerocco Caked For Beau's Scarf

January Off The Needles

I feel like I can actually call myself a knitter again. I have two FO’s already. a third, planned WIP is well underway and I continue to crank out little hexi-puffs for my Beekeeper Quilt. Seems the year long hiatus of 2012 has lit a fire under me.

Scarves Plain ‘N Fancy started as an idea for working through one (one!) box of stashed yarn and its not lost its charm for me yet. I am a self-described “Process” Knitter and could care less if anything is ever actually finished. With a view to potentially restock my shops though, the impetus to “git ‘er done” continues.
