Friday, You’re My Favourite

Three FO’s this week, yay! “Le Scarabée Argent“, “Firefly
and “Harmonia’s Rings“.

All the details are on my Ravelry, at the links above. Hope all is well in your world with lots of time for family, friends, chillin’ and crafting 🙂

Harmonia Happiness

I’m as close to finished my other sweater as possible, waiting only for the arrival of a skein to make the long-sleeve version.

That is a great story – I was so excited about using up this old (2010) stash that I didn’t realize I only had 5 skeins, not the 6 I’d mistakenly listed on Ravelry. Madelintosh as many of you know, doesn’t used dye lots (a ridiculous business decision but genius has it’s privilege I suppose). Undaunted, I resolved to buy a skein as close as possible and blend two together however but much to my chagrin, I discovered that “wisteria” had been discontinued.  Who discontinues purple?! Really people… Anyway, after an Internet and Ravelry  search (and heaven knows, it can be hard to get people to part with Stash, even if they haven’t used it in near a decade!) I found my shade and miraculously, it was purchased from the same shop – The Loopy Ewe – and in the same year as my own, just a few months apart. Fortuitous! I think the odds are quite good that it’ll be from the same batch, if not lot. The photo certainly looks close and though it was not listed for sale, the lovely Raveller agreed to sell to me 🙂

Here’s my progress from the inside view:

Harmonia's  Rings ~ Progress 2

Just a quick note: I’ve been finding it hard to catch up on my reading and responding on WordPress. Some of you know that I have a writing and poetry blog here as well. The volume of wonderful posts is sometimes overwhelming, especially when my M.E. kicks up and I hope you’ll forgive me if I miss something. Always know that your visits are what keeps me going  and are very much appreciated 🙂

WIP Wednesday

… and an FO 🙂

FO first. This is “Papyrus Columns Cowl”. A mostly reversible cowl or infinity scarf.

The completed set:

Memories of Egypt. Completed test knits for a KeiB Designs e-book.

I’ll be finishing the tech editing for the cowl today and hope to have the e-book up on Ravelry this evening. I think the book version will be titled “Memories of Egypt” or something similar, to reflect the cable theme that I used.

I hope some of you will give one of these a whirl and if you do, please feel free to share your photos 🙂

My new WIP is “Harmonia’s Rings” by Sivia Harding:

February 25th

KeiB’s “Harmonia”

This is my first moebius project – I know. It’s just I hate being a crowd follower and if it’s popular, I usually stay away from it. Must keep the “Punk” in Punk Rock! This pattern called to me though and so I am now on the moebius bandwagon.

I watched Cat Bordhi’s Youtube video to teach myself the cast on and as best I can tell, all has gone accordingly. I’m using one of my favourite yarns, Madeline Tosh Vintage in the colourway “Wisteria”. Another stashbuster project, as I purchased this a few years ago for a different project and fortuitously, had the right yardage 🙂

It’s snowing like mad again today and so I’ll tuck in with Harmonia and Henry Miller (some things are just better each time) and hope that Spring won’t forget Ottawa!

Cheers All 🙂

It’s A Brand New Shiny Year

I’m looking forward to another year of fibre, friends and fun on Pointe Shoes Punk Rock And Purl and happy to see all the talented new followers and old. You keep me inspired… if not out of the yarn shops! 😉

My 2014 projects in review can be seen on this page: Finished Knits 2014 and there’s a link on it to the project specifics for the patterns and yarns used.

I have a tradition of beginning a new project on New Years Eve and this one was no exception. Serendipitously and very appropriately, I had all the materials to start “Phoenix Rising”, a shawl by Sivia Harding Design. I’m a fan of Sivia’s patterns and the name and it’s associated story seem a metaphor for my life in general and how I’d like to see it continue this year. I don’t have a progress photo yet, I’ve been utterly engrossed in the making of it but here is a peak at the yarn – Unique Sheep’s Marici lace, the beads – 8/0 SL crystal AB’s and the pattern. The project page is on my Ravelry here.

The “Snow Glint” colourway is exclusive to Earthfaire, one of my favourite yarn store temptations.

To start the year off right, my friend Yvonne of Yvieknits Yarns is running a contest over on her blog. Yvie is the talented dyer behind the Mawata silk hankies that were used in one of the classes held this year at Needler’s Retreat 2014, taught by my lovely and talented BFF, Francine Hebert of “Fancy That”, yarn embellishments and jewellery.
You could win a skein of Yvie’s silk merino dk, so pop over for a visit 🙂

As it’s the beginning of a new year, I’ll take a moment to invite you to find me on Ravelry as “KarinB” and to join the Pointe Shoes Punk Rock And Purl group there if you wish. I hope to be spending more time there and with publishing my “KB Designs” knitting and crochet patterns.

You can find my patterns on Craftsy, Etsy, Ravelry and on my Blogger home “So Many Vices, So Little Time“. I’ll get them here eventually… there really is “so little time”! I sell finished handmade items and some crafting supplies on Etsy as well.

If you’re a Social Media type, I can be found with the motley lot that hangs around on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Goodreads, Pinterest and others. The green buttons on the top right hand side of the page will take you to my little corner of those spots. Feel free to leave a comment below about your own other internet spaces and to join me at mine.

Sheesh! You’d wonder how any of us have time to craft, right?! 😉

And with that – I’m back to the needles.

Cheers all!

Yarn Pr0n

I had to step out on my stash. This beauty showed up in an email and there were so many reasons to buy it. Exclusive colourway, 100% spun silk, laceweight…

And the planned project is “Phoenix Rising” Shawl by Sivia Harding:

Next project

The beads are silver-lined crystal A/B and pick up the almost imperceptible pinks and aquas that are part of this gorgeous colourway. All from Earthfaire and with thanks to the wonderful Ellen, who always knows the exact bead to go with her yarns.

My life has been a little off-kilter the last two years but I am finding signs of hope and healing here and there. “Phoenix Rising” just seems appropriate to work those good thoughts into as I knit.

And… We’re Back

My knitting is all about the WIP’s still and most look rather the same as last time, so no pictures. I do have my Ravellenics medals:

Hoping your week is going well. Cheers!

Make It Monday

And what a weekend it was!

Clue Six of the Peter Pan Mystey KAL arrived bright and early Friday morning. I had time to work the colour transition on one side of the shawl before heading off to work. This next-to-last clue had us cast off each side and so, It looks like the seventh and final clue will have us pick up the outer edges for a border and then the finishing. Have loved this KAL and in particular, the Unique Sheep’s gradience colours.

Here’s last week’s progress (there are more photos on my Flickr):

(No idea why this photo is rotated – it’s correct in my media files and defies my two correction attempts! Clicking the photo will take you to its home on Flickr and spare your neck a crink)

I finished up my Snow Day mitts (that match the hat mentioned in a previous post) and a crochet scarf for the Ravelry Rallenics:

And… Last not least, I cast off my Hanging Garden Stole. It qualified for the “WIP Dancing” event of Ravellenics, having started before the official cast on date. Finished up Friday evening:

#hanginggardenstole #siviaharding #silkmerino #castoff #beads #happygirl #shawl #laceAll of this and the massive cooking spree Sunday to make meals for the next several weeks, made for a super-productive weekend. Happy Girl.

Hope yours was great too. Cheers!
