NOFO Friday

“Paridae” is really coming along. I’m working the hood – the last bit before cast off, ends are woven and I may be wearing it by the end of the weekend. Such an interesting pattern, it’s been fun to knit.  And because I need more than one thing going at a time, I started my “Frozen Lake” shawl (gotta find something more catchy for a name!) This one is in two ancient skeins of Cherry Tree Hill Supersock that I’d forgotten existed – glad they were found :). My project notes are on Ravelry -> here <- and -> here <-. My DIY project, refurbing my mossy, vintage “keystone” interlock patio is well underway too, slow but sure the job gets done. Hands are a bit of a wreck though – hurty arthritis is hurty! It will be worth it in the end though, the patch that’s been cleared – by hand and with homemade eco safe weed destroyer and “magic sand” applied B) – already looks better.

Project progress:

Now must start organizing to spend a little time in Calabogie at Centennial Lake. I have the best friends!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! 🙂

FO Friday ~ Absinthe Mermaid

“Ariel” aka: “Absinthe Mermaid” is off the needles and I’m really happy with this one. The pattern was super easy and would have been quick if I had a better handle on my “Oh shiny!” I still maintain that ADD makes me more productive… in some ways :). My project notes are on Ravelry -> here <-

Absinthe’s portfolio:

I’ve got a good start on my next project “Paridae” Cardigan – on a bit of a sweater kick lately… and will have an update later this week.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! 🙂

FO Friday ~ Jungle Superhero Pram Blanket

Off the hook and going soon to Mama, Papa and Baby.

JSPB’s portfolio:

I’ve been somewhat AWOL the last couple of weeks. Mostly to be sure JSPB was finished but also am participating in Yarn Love’s Castra KAL and test knitting a shawl for my friend Anja (it’s interesting and fun – you’ll want it 🙂 ).and will have an update later this week.

I’m working hard supporting the ‘Save Mooney’s Bay‘ community group and this is my priority at the moment.

A member created this wonderful Youtube video that hits the highlights and provides a link where you can add your voice. Your support would be very appreciated.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! 🙂

Hi! :)

That’s as catchy a title as I can come up with and I agonized over it, believe me!

No FO’s just yet although my ‘Duane Park Triangle‘ shawl is blocking as I type – cursed thing. Remind me to never commit to a pattern that is all garter stitch again. Even the pretty Zen String yarns that I used couldn’t save my attitude by the end.

Happier WIP’s are my ‘Gothic Starfish‘ afghan. It just needs a few rows of black border and it will be out the door to live on my daughter’s purple sofa and my ‘Rheinlust‘ shawl, which I am madly in love with; all twisted stitches and Wollmeise goodness. This is not to say that I now love Wollmeise, I still prefer other yarn bases a LOT but it’s perfect in this pattern.

With spring finally here for real, I’m working hard on my little house and the gardens. Replaced the old mailbox with one that’ll match my new screen door when it goes up and the dead doorbell is on today’s agenda for a new wireless one. Good friends adopted my old wooden picnic table for their cottage and I now have room for an elf-size gazebo in the back garden. Lots of leafy clean up to do before that goes up but it’ll make a lovely outdoor retreat. My little office is coming along too, I just finished the assembly yesterday and am moving files, supplies and all that stuff that’s been living in my kitchen to its proper home.

Finally have my ‘Leaf’ set up and it’s keeping me honest about my exercise goals or err… honest about how much I fool myself! Apparently, knitting does NOT burn many calories… A terrible oversight on the part of our physiology IMHO. Saying goodbye to another dear family member and some irksome ‘girl’ health issues just lately have me wanting to get back to my former athletic self or a reasonable facsimile! I can say that deleting a few of my social media accounts has been a HUGE benefit in terms of stress relief. I mean really? How connected does one woman have to be, right?! 😉

With that, here’s pictorial ‘skinny’ on all of the things :):

Oh! And THIS! A month or so ago, I stabbed my finger with some wicked sharp scissors when I was lifting staples from the back of a painting… I couldn’t even look as I tugged them out and did the first aid thing. Knitting and blocking were really hard for a week or two and now I have a scar! Apparently, I haven’t outgrown this stage…

FO Friday ~ Tuscan Medallion Afghan

Not only am I hooked on crochet just lately; I seem to also be a little “star struck” 🙂 ‘Tuscan Medallion’ is another star-shaped afghan, this one with twelve points and big! TMA was started specifically to liberate some old Zen String Bliss Aran from yarn incarceration and to use some odd ball colours of Cascade 220. I was a little leery about the combo at the start – the ZS variegated isn’t “my” colours but as it grew, it did seem a little like some of the pretty tile work that I’m drawn to ie: kitchen backsplash renos on Pinterest! My project notes for this one are on Ravelry -> here <-

TMA’s portfolio:

The additional Cherub DK that I need to finish up ‘Gothic Starfish‘ has finally arrived and I’m back at it to try to wrap it up and get it out the door to the owner of the purple sofa.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! 🙂

FO Friday

This has nothing to do with Frig Off Mother Nature, who dropped another 15cm of snow onto our fledgling spring day before yesterday.

(and apologies for not being as interactive with comments as usual – I’m always a flighty mess with ADD/OCD but I suffer adore Spring Fever on top of that!)

It does have to do with stashbusting, crochet – I’m still on the jag, Madeline Tosh and spring fever that can’t be denied. Shovel duty notwithstanding.

Over The Rideau‘ came off the blocking mats first thing this morning and I’m happy with this one, maybe even a bit barmy! There’s a scarf size version, hooked in Tosh leftovers from my ‘Pennae Shawl‘ and last night, a cake of KnitCircus leaped from the shelf and demanded that it be worked in this pattern too!

It’s that quick, easy and a one skein project when worked without mods to size. For someone with as any OOAK, limited and yarn club singles as me, I’m finding I can bang out one of these in several hours and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to an adventurous beginner.

Over The Rideau’s portfolio:

As unpacking progresses – now to the boxes of items that had been stored for ages anyway – I’m finding there are many bits of my old life that I’m happy to let go. Former hobby items mostly and collectibles accrued before I realized that yarn takes up less room!

If you are a fan of counted cross stitch, I have many beautiful kits and patterns for sale in my Etsy shop, including: Just Nan, Laura Perrin and Mirabillia. If you are a lover of teddybears, I’m listing many miniature to medium size OOAK and limited edition artist teddies at my Ebay shop. There just isn’t room for them in my new place. Feel free to contact me here or there if you have any questions, the links for both shops follow just below:

Done Like Dinner ~ No Fooling :)

Don’t know about y’all but March came in like a lion here and tried its damnedest to go out that way too. Fortunately, it’s just rain that’s teeming down at the moment and getting rid of the remnants of snow and ‘snirt’.

The end of March is the end of National Crochet Month and I’m super stoked about my FO’s this year. I’m pretty sure I’ve hooked more in the last month than I normally do in six! I have five FO’s and one ‘also ran’. I’ve yet to snag more of the YP yarn to finish what was project two and I really don’t want to end it where it is – OCD alert.

So, on this first of April, here are all of the crochet things! 🙂
